Wyckoff Unplugged presents Makadewiiyaasikwe

October 25, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Wyckoff Unplugged is proud to present Makadewiiyaasikwe an intimate evening of recording and performance by Kelsey Pyro and guests

Join Kelsey Pyro, Ben Hoffmann, Compton Timberwolf, and Kino Galbraith at The Wyckoff House for a night of live music and film from Makadewiiyaasikwe. Created in residence with The Shed, Makadewiiyaasikwe translates into “a black woman; a woman of African descent,” in the Ojibwe language. This work is a multidisciplinary performance piece that combines music, storytelling and film to create historical and personal connections between Black and Native American people. Nicknamed Wyckoff Unplugged, this event will be a live recording of music from Makadewiiyaasikwe as well as a screening of (Canarsie resident) Kino Galbraith’s photo/video art, which was featured throughout the original performance.

The Wyckoff House Museum is excited to continue our relationship with Kelsey Pyro and she continues her journey with Makadewiiyaasikwe this time as part of our event series Protest Garden Historical Resistance and Radical Cultivation in Brooklyn. Join us as we welcome guests into our 17th century Dutch Colonial farmhouse, New York State’s oldest house and first landmark, for an evening of sharing and live recording.

Please note that the lyrics in the music contain language appropriate for a mature audience.

Funding for Protest Garden is made possible in part by the Lincoln Center Cultural Innovation Fund, which is generously supported by The Rockefeller Foundation and administered by Lincoln Center.
