A gorgeous, illustrated book depicting the ecological history of Manhattan through period maps, archeological discoveries, and computational geography. It’s difficult to imagine what Manhattan would have looked like to its explorers—before the skyscrapers, the crowded sidewalks and the busy intersections. Although the lush forests, rolling hills and streams have disappeared, this work aims to bring this wild island to life through text, maps, illustrations and computer visualizations.
