SUMMARY:Farmhouse Family Day: Pinkster Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Discover the history of Pinkster\, one of New York’s oldest celebrations rooted in African traditions.\n\n\nThe Wyckoff House Museum & Elite Learners bring you a special Pinkster Festival with live music\, carnival activities\, drumming and more! \nJoin us for a special Pinkster Family Day featuring storytelling\, music\, and performances and stick around to make some music of your own! \n \nWhat is the History of Pinkster?\nPinkster is a Dutch holiday marking the day of Pentecost in the Catholic church and for enslaved peoples it was a day of rest and a day to practice their individual cultures and traditions. In the late 18th century\, Pinkster became known as an African celebration mostly in Dutch settled areas throughout the Hudson River Valley where they settled during the 1620s. Pinkster is now known to be a celebration of the diverse traditional African cultural arts in the Americas and a commemoration of the resistance and resilience of African people. \n \nPinkster is made possible by is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the Council Members Farah Louis and Mercedes Narcisse.
