Farmhouse Family Day: Compost Adventure
August 17, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
FreeGet your hands dirty with a fun composting workshop at Wyckoff’s August Family Day! Join Farmer Zach at our garden compost piles, where you’ll learn how to make and sift your own compost. Explore our farm and Worm Bin, and enjoy fun worm-themed arts and crafts projects for all ages. You can also tour our historic home, play with outdoor toys and games, and do a scavenger hunt.
NYC Department of Sanitation will be on hand for a Community Compost Giveback. Reservations for compost pickup are currently full, any bags that have not been picked up by 1PM will be released to the public at a first-come first-served basis.
Want to participate in some other activities? Make sure to check out some of the other happenings while you’re at August Family Day!
At 11:30AM, join Tasha Douge, one of Haiti Cultural Exchange‘s 2019 Lakou Nou Fellows, for storytime around the beginnings of the Haitian Revolution. She will be reading Boukman and Cecile Fatiman: Black Revolution. This will also be an opportunity to chat with her and learn about her project, And So It Begins… first hand.
Follow it up with a presentation of an interactive movement workshop led by Protest Garden artists Kriyol Dance! Collective at 2PM.
Family Day is from 11am to 3pm, and is free and open to all ages. Reservations not required but recommended.
Kriyol Dance! Collective is a participating artist in the Protest Garden Project, made possible in part by the Lincoln Center Cultural Innovation Fund, which is generously supported by The Rockefeller Foundation and administered by Lincoln Center.
